Is it possible to grow an orange tree from a seed, inside your apartment
I was sitting and thinking about this silly question. For some reason I’m fascinated with growing things. That doesn’t save me from being a poor gardener though. As a kid, I remember sticking fruit seeds in the pots with soil, hoping something will grow out of these.
I had this question since I have a plant-tree in this apartment, which highly resembles the citrus trees. But it’s a domestic ficus and it will not fructify (what a cool word, by the way). So I’m thinking.. perhaps I should plant an Orange tree this year.
I did a bit of research and it seems it’s a fairly simple task – to grow an orange tree from a seed. But that’s outside. Is it possible to grow a tree inside the apartment in a huge pot with soil?:) With a tiny oranges hanging from it? Perhaps I’m hallucinating.
But theoretically, the tree will not be able to reach the size required for fructifying, even if the pot is huge. That’s worth testing though. I need to move to a good rented house before that, since I will be needing 16-17C temperature for growing Orange trees.
Supposedly Orange trees can survive temperatures as low as 4-5C, which is quite surprising. I always thought citrus trees are very fastidious and conifer trees are not. Turns out the opposite is true. Nevermind, I will learn this stuff someday.
Looking forward to planting an Orange tree this summer!
